Usually these Music Monday post titles reference a car playlist but, like a lot of people, I’ve been working from home for the past couple of weeks.
So, while I haven’t had a commute to listen to my playlist, I have been able to listen to my music whenever I want which is a novel experience. You’ve got to think about the small perks during times like this. Ordinarily I’m in an open plan office and my role requires me to be available to help the other members of the team whenever they need it so I can’t even use headphones. Now my office is my bedroom and if people have questions we use the text chat function on Zoom.
Being able to listen to music makes the more repetitive jobs I have to do more bearable, so this playlist has had a lot of use in the past couple of weeks.
And now here we are with my favourite tracks:
DUN DUN – Everglow
I’ve had a lot of k-pop recommended to me over the past few months and I have to say it’s opened my eyes to a whole genre of music I’d never experienced before. This is an absolutely banging song and it’s first on the playlist because it’s great for brushing away the cobwebs first thing in the morning
Dubstruck – The Snake Charmer
It took me a lot of listens before I could decide whether I liked this song or not. A dubstep version of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck played on the bagpipes is definitely an acquired taste. But I did decide in the end that I liked it and I’d recommend everyone give it a listen at least once so you can say you’ve experienced it.
Coincidance – Handsome Dancer
Another one that I initially discovered thanks to TikTok. It’s a fun song though and I really enjoyed it now that I’ve heard more than this small section.
You Should Be Sad – Halsey
I think most people who listen to this and have been in a relationship that ended badly will find it relatable. It’s a beautiful and almost simple song but one that sticks with you.
Hallelujah – Oh Wonder
This is one of those songs that just got stuck in my head, to the point where I found myself singing along without even thinking about it.
Open Secrets – Rush
There’s been lot Rush on my playlists over the past couple of months and I have to say I have become a fan. This is more in line with their more classic rock stuff and I like it a lot.
Blinding Lights – The Weekend
I initially heard this song when it was played on a Colorado Avalanche locker room video (have I mentioned I miss hockey?).
And, of course, like so many songs it’s also become a popular TikTok dance
It’s a great song though. I have danced along in my seat many times while I’ve been driving or working.
Deliver Us – Caleb Hyles & Jonathan Young
I was at Uni when Prince of Egypt came out and I absolutely loved it and used to listen to the soundtrack a lot. This is a great cover of it, sticking to the roots of the song but putting the singers own mark on it as well.
Nothing But a Heartache – The Flirtations
This song felt really familiar when I was listening to it and I’m not sure why. I might have heart it in a film or on an advert. It’s great though. A classic soul song.
Hard to Forget – Sam Hunt
I’d never heard of Sam Hunt until he performed live at the Colorado Avalanche Stadium Series game that I went to in Denver last month. Country generally isn’t my favourite genre of music but I love this song. It’s really easy to sing along to.
Tonight Tonight – Hot Chelle Rae
It would probably be easier for me to talk about the songs that I don’t know because of TikTok at this point. It’s how I stay up to date with what the kids are listening to. These ones are pretty funny.
Run Through Walls – The Script
This is just a really nice uplifting song about friendship. Listening to it makes me happy.
Everything I Wanted – Billie Eilish
I have to say I had never heard of Billie Eilish until there was all that kerfuffle a few months back when she said in an interview that she didn’t know who Van Halen were (she’s 17 years old. I’m 40 and I can only name one Van Halen song). A couple of her songs have made it onto my playlists this year and I really like what I’ve heard. Definitely going to try some more of her stuff at a later point.
Simmer – Hayley Williams
I was a fan of Paramore back in the day and Hayley Williams’ solo material is just as good. This is a great track.
